Forensic Case FA 054 17

Published in Federal Register September 8, 2020; physical transfer to Saginaw Chippewa on August 25, 2022

On September 9, 2017, human remains were discovered during the excavation of a building site. The property owner notified the Alcona County Sheriff's office of the discovery. The remains were brought for analysis to the Forensic Anthropology Laboratory, located at Michigan State University. The individual is an adult male, somewhere between 30 to 60 years of age.

This individual was not originally listed on MSU's NAGPRA inventory, as they were not associated with the MSU Museum but with the Forensic Anthropology Lab. In 2019, it was decided to condense our efforts and only have one department providing NAGPRA listings.

This notice for this individual was published in the Federal Register (link to published notice) on September 8, 2020. This ancestor was physically transferred to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe on August 25, 2022.
