New York

We have 43 objects recorded as from New York. Of these, 19 have not yet been culturally affiliated with a specific group. These objects were recovered from New York in general, as well as the following counties: Cayuga, Erie, Essex, Genesee, Niagara, Ontario, and Steuben. These objects include: a stone gorget, stone adze, metal tomahawk head, stone gouge, groundstone tool sharpener, wampum, an "imitation totonac mask", bone tools, bone flint flaking tools, a biface, drill, and projectile point. 

The rest of the objects have a preliminary cultural affiliation listed in our database. It is unknown who made these determinations and as such, please do not hesitate to reach out if you believe the listed affiliation is wrong. 

Iroquois/Haudenosaunee

We have 10 objects and one archaeological collection listed as affiliated with the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee). These objects include 5 false face masks made for the tourist trade, 2 maple syrup spoons, and a small beaded purse (using white, pink, clear, brown, blue, and green glass beads).

The archaeological collection (all fish bone) is from the Buyer Site in Madison County, likely collected by Peter Pratt.

Cayuga

We have 1 false face mask created for the tourist trade, recorded as having been made by the Cayuga Nation.

Mohawk

We have 5 beaded objects attributed to the Mohawk. These are in the database as likely "made for tourists and sold mainly around Niagara Falls area". The objects include beaded pin cushions, a beaded purse, and beaded wall decorations. 

We also have several archaeological collections collected by Peter Pratt that may be affiliated with the Mohawk. These include faunal remains from the Nichols Pond site and the Sand Hill Site. 

Oneida

We also have several archaeological collections collected by Peter Pratt that may be affiliated with the Oneida. These include faunal remains from the Nichols Pond site and the Sand Hill Site. 

Onondaga

We have one straw and pine needle basket said to have been made by the Onondaga.

We also have 1 false face mask created for the tourist trade, recorded as having been made by the Onondaga.
