Michigan State University has been working with the Michigan Tribes to facilitate the physical return of ancestors from within Michigan. In total, we have repatriated 39 ancestors and 3 associated funerary objects to date, to the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, and the Match-e-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi-Gun Lake Tribe.
We look forward to continuing to facilitate the return home of ancestors to the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe once the snow melts!
